The arrival of Anthony Gordon at Barcelona convinced Ansu that his future was not in the squad under Hansi Flick, which accelerated talks for his continuation at Monaco. Since April, Monaco has communicated to Barcelona its intention to trigger Ansu's release clause of 11 million euros.

The parties negotiated contract terms including salary in line with his Barcelona earnings and contract length. Monaco proposed a five-year deal lasting until June 2031, while Ansu prefers a four-year agreement ending in 2030, when he turns 28.

Barcelona seeks to retain future control over the player through a buy-back option or a share of a future sale. A meeting between Ansu's agent Jorge Mendes and Monaco's management is expected soon to facilitate final details.

Before departing, Ansu renewed his Barcelona contract until June 2028, deferring part of his salary. The transfer process is near completion with only fiscal formalities pending, which should not invalidate the deal.
