Although Atlético Madrid has firmly stated that they do not want to sell Julián Álvarez to either Barcelona or Real Madrid, the situation surrounding the Argentine striker continues to draw attention.

Spanish media report that not only Atlético’s president Enrique Cerezo, who expressed frustration over the repeated transfer questions, but also former and current players connected to the club have shown understanding of Álvarez’s position.

Álvarez’s teammate Marcos Llorente recently said in an interview, referring to their friendship, “Because of my relationship with Julián, I want him to do what makes him happiest. As a friend, I’ll support him.”

Moreover, Atlético legends and Uruguayan icons Diego Godín and Diego Forlán commented on Álvarez’s situation with empathy. Godín remarked, “Fernando Torres said the other day that at Atlético you have to want to stay. I hope Julián stays. I don’t know what will happen, but I hope he wants to stay. He’s a great player. You can’t find a player like Julián today. I don’t know what money could buy him…”

Forlán added, “It’s a shame, but people have to understand we are professional players. It would be a pity if he left, but someone else will come.” He recalled watching Álvarez since his time at River Plate and Manchester City, noting his significant growth at Atlético.

These remarks suggest that within Atlético there is understanding and sympathy for Álvarez’s desire to leave, despite the club’s firm stance against selling him. Barcelona remains patient and engaged in intermittent contacts, maintaining interest in the Argentine forward.
