Barcelona's option to sign Marcus Rashford for €30 million expired earlier this week, and the England forward is set to return to Manchester United after the ongoing FIFA World Cup.

Despite Rashford's impressive performances for both Barcelona and England, Manchester United has no plans to reintegrate him and is actively looking to sell the player. Removing his wages from their payroll would offer significant financial relief for the club.

Spanish media report that the Red Devils are pleased with how the situation has unfolded and might even be glad Barcelona did not trigger the purchase option. Considering Rashford's output for Barcelona and his promising start in the World Cup, United hopes to secure a transfer fee around £40 million, well above the previous option price.

Rashford was disappointed that Barcelona chose not to make the move permanent, especially after the club signed his compatriot Anthony Gordon instead. The player still holds hope for a return to the Catalan side, but his rising market value and United's demands make this unlikely.

Additionally, Manchester United is no longer open to extending the loan deal, which Barcelona had previously proposed.

Rashford remains open to moving to another club if a suitable permanent transfer offer arrives.
