FC Barcelona has taken a significant step in renovating Spotify Camp Nou with the approval of license 1C for expanding the Gol Nord section, enabling the stadium capacity to exceed 62,000 spectators. Construction of the third tier is nearing completion, with only the upper part of the Gol Sud sector remaining, where removal of the old upper tier has already started.
In the coming months, seat installation will commence once waterproofing is finished. Significant progress is also underway on the upper third tier, where pillars to support the roof have begun installation, aiming to complete this phase by summer. However, the roof itself is planned to be installed after the 2026/27 season concludes, expected to be ready by late summer 2027.
Barcelona is preparing for potential delays in roofing installation and intends to discuss temporary use of the Lluís Companys stadium with city authorities if needed. After the football season ends in May, contractor Limak will have several months to work intensively without match interruptions, speeding up construction.
These developments mark an important milestone in modernizing one of the world’s iconic football stadiums, offering improved facilities and capacity for fans.
