Three weeks after winning Barça Femení's fourth UEFA Women's Champions League, FC Barcelona officially announced on Wednesday the renewal of Pere Romeu's contract until 2028. The agreement had been reached prior to the final against Lyon, with an official signing ceremony expected in the coming days.
Pere Romeu will turn 33 on November 9, 2026. His first two seasons as head coach saw the team claim eight out of nine possible trophies. These include two domestic leagues, two Copa de la Reina titles, two Spanish Super Cups, one Champions League, and one Catalonia Cup, although the team did not compete in the latter during the current season.
Previously, Romeu was part of the women's first team coaching staff from 2021, initially as an assistant coach. Before that, he worked in Barcelona's youth system from 2017 to 2020, starting with the Prebenjamín team and ending with the Cadete A. During the 2020-21 season, he gained experience abroad as an assistant with the Romanian men's team Viitorul Constanta.
He took over as head coach in 2024, succeeding Jonatan Giráldez. This contract extension reflects the club's confidence in Romeu's coaching skills and tactical work with Barça Femení.
