Barcelona has prioritized strengthening their attack and re-signing defender Joao Cancelo during the summer transfer window. Cancelo impressed during his loan spell last season, securing the left-back position, which convinced Barcelona’s sporting director Deco and coach Hansi Flick to push for a permanent deal.

However, despite a general agreement, talks with Al Hilal face hurdles due to financial demands. Although Cancelo has only one year remaining on his contract, Al Hilal insists on receiving a meaningful transfer fee. Earlier, the Saudi club reportedly asked for around €15 million but has since lowered this amount, yet are unwilling to let Cancelo leave for free.

Delays are also linked to changes happening within Al Hilal's management. The club is hiring a new sporting director who must decide whether to retain head coach Simone Inzaghi, whose relationship with Cancelo is strained.

If Inzaghi is dismissed, the new coach may opt to let Cancelo go, making Barcelona’s signing easier, possibly including a deal involving Marc Casado. If not, Barcelona might have to wait until Cancelo’s contract expires in 2027, which is far from ideal.

Despite mutual interest, the deal remains uncertain due to Al Hilal's internal situation and financial stance.
