Anthony Gordon, the forward for FC Barcelona and England's national team, posted an emotional message on social media after England's semi-final defeat against Argentina at the 2026 World Cup. The 25-year-old expressed deep disappointment while also looking forward with hope.

"I’m truly devastated. Honestly, I thought this was our moment to win after so many years of waiting, but it wasn’t meant to be and the pain will linger for a while," Gordon wrote. He scored England’s opening goal before Argentina’s ultimate comeback (1-2), although he had already been substituted at that point.

"I’ve never wanted a victory so much, not just for the trophy but for everything we built as a group and what it would have meant for England. I enjoyed every minute representing this country at the World Cup and making memories that will last a long time. Thank you to everyone who supported us here in the US and back home. It was wonderful to see that unity and the celebrations. Our time will come," he added.

Barcelona plans to support Gordon when he joins the preseason training under Hansi Flick after a deserved rest. "His message reveals the tremendous pressure world-class players endure, but also their resilience," the club commented.
