Ahead of FC Barcelona’s presidential elections scheduled for March 15, candidates submitted their collected support signatures to formalize their candidacies. Joan Laporta leads with 8,169 signatures, while opposition candidates Víctor Font and Marc Ciria gathered 5,144 and 2,844 respectively.
Although the opposition is fragmented, their total number of signatures surpasses Laporta’s. Using historical data from the 2021 election to estimate how signatures translate into votes, Artificial Intelligence predicts that without a united front, Laporta would still secure around 24,000 votes, leaving opponents behind.
However, if the opposition were to join forces, Font and Ciria could combine for approximately 23,200 votes—just 800 votes behind Laporta. This scenario suggests the election could be decided by a slim margin or result in a near tie. It’s important to note the AI model does not account for external factors such as voter mobilization or campaign strategies.
Therefore, the upcoming vote could be highly competitive, with the potential unity of opposition playing a decisive role. This elevates the stakes for all candidates in the race for the club’s presidency.
