Barcelona have been active this summer, signing Anthony Gordon and Karim Adeyemi for Hansi Flick’s squad. However, they missed a chance to acquire Yan Diomande, who now appears close to moving to Real Madrid.
Spanish media report that in May, Barcelona’s sporting director Deco met with representatives of Diomande, the RB Leipzig winger, to discuss a potential deal valued around €100 million. Despite the interest, Barcelona decided not to proceed due to the high price and ongoing consideration of Marcus Rashford for €30 million, which also did not materialize.
Instead, Barcelona shifted focus to signing England international Anthony Gordon for €80 million, who is set to join the club soon after recovering from an impressive World Cup performance.
Recently, reports indicate that Real Madrid officials are closing in on Diomande with an offer near €120 million, significantly more than what Barcelona was willing to pay.
Barcelona had previously lost other targets to Real, including Marc Cucurella and Bernardo Silva. Whether the choice to prioritize Gordon over Diomande proves wise remains to be seen, but the club presently shows satisfaction with their current acquisition fitting Hansi Flick’s tactical vision.
