Pere Romeu, head coach of FC Barcelona Women, is set to begin his third season with preseason training starting on July 27, 2026. In an exclusive interview, he emphasized the mutual interest of both himself and the club in continuing their cooperation, despite some delay in contract negotiations.

Both the club and coach agreed on the need to strengthen the squad following the departures of key players — Salma, Ona, Mapi, and Alexia. New signings have been made in defensive positions, with focus also on acquiring an attacking player and a versatile full-back capable of playing on either flank.

Romeu praised the current squad’s potential, highlighting "the very high level" in midfield and "a strong competitive tone" maintained by the players. Among the newcomers, Renee van Asten was singled out for her dual-footed capability and aggressive defensive style, complementing the team’s tactical approach.

The club is actively working on accelerating contract renewals for key leaders such as Patri, Brugts, Pajor, Sydney, Paredes, and Gemma. Romeu stressed the importance of these steps to ensure internal stability and focus on sporting objectives for the 2027/28 season.

On his coaching methodology, Romeu underlined continuous improvement, tactical adaptation to new player profiles, and fostering a positive team atmosphere. He reiterated that the club and collective objectives surpass individual contributions, referring to the departure of Alexia while expecting other players to step up.

From a physical and medical perspective, Romeu noted the crucial role of physical condition in enabling players to perform at their best. The coaching staff works closely with tactical, conditioning, psychological, and medical departments to ensure comprehensive team performance.

Consequently, the upcoming season for Barcelona Women will be built on continuity, squad reinforcement, and internal cohesion, all evident in the club’s approach and the coach’s statements.
