On Friday afternoon, around 3:30 PM local time, a 54-year-old construction worker suffered a fatal head injury while working on the compression ring designed to support the stadium’s roof. Despite immediate emergency response efforts, the worker passed away. This marks the first fatal accident since the project began in June 2023.
In response, Barcelona promptly suspended all construction activities as a mark of respect and mourning. The club publicly conveyed its deepest condolences to the family and friends of the deceased. President Joan Laporta personally reached out to the family to offer support during this difficult time.
The Mossos d’Esquadra police confirmed the incident and have referred the case to the competent investigative court and the Department of Enterprise and Labour to thoroughly examine the circumstances surrounding the accident.
