A fatal accident occurred on Friday at the Spotify Camp Nou construction site, marking the first worker death since the major renovation started in June 2023. A 54-year-old operator died while performing painting duties on an elevated platform.

The incident took place around 3:30 PM near the Les Corts precinct in Barcelona. According to Catalan police, the worker suffered a fatal blow while carrying out his tasks on the stadium’s renovation project. Multiple emergency units, including investigative teams and medical services, responded immediately but were unable to save his life.

The extensive transformation of Spotify Camp Nou began on June 1, 2023, representing one of the largest architectural projects in Barcelona. Current construction focuses on building the third tier of seating and a compression ring designed to support the stadium’s new roof, which is scheduled for installation next season.

Authorities followed protocol by informing the judicial court and the labor and enterprise department about the deadly workplace accident. This is the first registered fatality since the project's inception, involving thousands of workers.

The incident underscores the inherent risks in large-scale construction projects. Despite ongoing safety monitoring, the tragedy highlights the critical need for stringent security measures for all personnel involved.
