Gerard Piqué, one of the most influential figures in Barcelona’s history, has addressed rumors about potentially running for the club’s presidency. Despite his popularity and extensive experience, the current owner of FC Andorra and president of the Kings League stated that running in the near future is unrealistic.
In a live-streamed conversation with streamer DjMaRiio, Piqué explained that the next club elections are at least five years away and he cannot imagine committing now: “I've been involved with the Kings League for three years, from 2023 to 2026, and it feels like an eternity. You're asking me about something that will happen five years from now—it’s impossible to answer today.”
A major hurdle he highlighted is his ownership of FC Andorra, which prevents him from simultaneously holding the Barcelona presidency: “I don’t think I can even run because I own a club. Things would have to change drastically for me to be able to do something like that.”
Following Joan Laporta’s re-election extending his tenure until 2031, Barcelona’s leadership appears settled for now. Yet Piqué remains a strong figure linked to the club’s possible future direction thanks to his deep ties and leadership qualities beyond his playing career.
According to Sport.es, Piqué emphasizes that structural and regulatory changes in the club would be necessary to allow his candidacy.
For fans, this means Piqué’s role in Barcelona’s future continues to intrigue but concrete moves toward presidency are not imminent. His ongoing contribution to football—on and off the pitch—keeps his profile high as a respected figure capable of influencing the sport and the club’s legacy.
