FC Barcelona have officially announced the signing of the English teenage prodigy Ajay Tavares from Norwich City.

“Agreement for the incorporation of the player Ajay Tavares to Barça Juvenil A from Norwich City,” the club’s statement on social media read.

The 16-year-old winger signed his contract with Barça today after completing his medical, in the presence of Jose Ramon Alexanco, Blaugrana’s Director of Youth Football.

Tavares is a versatile operator capable of playing on both the right and left flanks. Despite having recently turned 16, he had already become part of Norwich City’s Under-18 team, competing with older players. He is also part of the England U-17 setup.

A deal for Tavares had been in the works for a while. Holding a Portuguese passport allowed Barcelona to sign him right away, instead of waiting until he turns 18.

As mentioned in the statement, Tavares will be part of Barça Juvenil A, although it would not come as a surprise to see him play for Barça Athletic in the near future.
