Robert Lewandowski is struggling. The Polish forward has scored only two goals in his last seven games, and the match against Levante was a great opportunity to redeem himself and increase his goal tally.
The match wasn’t easy as the opponent played very defensively, and Lewandowski had very little involvement, hardly taking any shots on target. He was substituted in the 65th minute and left the field with an unhappy expression. He was frustrated with his performance and possibly because he often is one of the first players to be substituted. However, after the game, he greeted coach Flick.
This season has been difficult for Lewandowski: he has had some physical problems that forced him to slow down, and he has yet to find his best playing rhythm despite a strong start to the season. Coach Hansi Flick frequently rotates him with Ferran Torres, even in important matches. Lewandowski accepts this situation while awaiting the decisive phase of the season, hoping to get more playing time.
In the match against Levante, Lewandowski made only two attempts, one of which was on target, and completed just eleven passes in 65 minutes. Levante left little space for Barcelona’s forwards and wingers, who struggled to find opportunities and score. In fact, the first two goals came from midfielders arriving from the second line.
Lewandowski left the pitch angry, possibly due to the substitution, his personal performance, or the team’s play. He must now accept that this might be his last year at Barça, as it is unlikely the club will extend his contract for another year. Barcelona needs his best version if they want to win titles.
