Following his re-election as FC Barcelona president until 2031, Joan Laporta is preparing to meet with sporting director Deco to discuss and accelerate the team’s project for the 2026/27 season. A preliminary plan is already in place, and work is set to intensify.
A key priority is renewing head coach Hansi Flick's contract, which expires in 2027. Laporta aims to resolve this early, viewing Flick as a pivotal figure for the team’s development. Talks are also ongoing with Ferran Torres, but no final decisions have been made yet.
Regarding squad reinforcement, Laporta mentioned the need for a central defender and possibly a forward, though the forward position is not deemed urgent. Barcelona has ruled out signing Dusan Vlahovic, whose contract with Juventus just ended, while keeping the door open to extending Robert Lewandowski’s stay, who joined the club in summer 2022. Julian Álvarez is also on the table, but with strict, non-negotiable conditions.
Loan deals are being considered as well — Marcus Rashford, for instance, is more likely to return on a second loan rather than a permanent 30 million euro transfer. João Cancelo’s situation will be monitored closely, as his attacking style may not fit perfectly with a defensive role.
Together with Flick, Laporta plans to continue investing in La Masia, studying the potential promotion of several B team players such as Jofre Torrents, Tommy, and Xavi Espart.
The upcoming discussions between Laporta and Deco thus represent a cornerstone in shaping Barça’s sporting strategy, aimed at maintaining competitiveness and laying foundations for the future.
