Barcelona’s sporting director Deco offered his perspective ahead of the 2026 World Cup final between Spain and Argentina in New York.

He acknowledged the challenge of picking a favorite, given the presence of players connected to the club in both teams. "I always support my people, but my people are everywhere. Leo is always one of us. In the end, it’s hard to choose," Deco told Cope.

He emphasized Lionel Messi’s importance to Barcelona and football: "He is not only a friend but a legend who has given everything to Barça fans and football lovers. What he is doing now is spectacular." Deco also recognized the contribution of Barcelona players representing Spain and compared both teams: "Spain is playing well after the semifinal, Argentina is winning matches, and Leo is playing spectacularly. Both teams have fantastic players."

After the final, Deco will return to Barcelona to continue strengthening the squad. Karim Adeyemi is expected to be officially introduced next week, and efforts to sign Julian Alvarez will persist.
