Jules Kounde, Barcelona’s defender, is on the verge of activating a performance-related bonus that will financially reward his former club, Sevilla.

Kounde transferred to Barcelona in summer 2022 for around €50 million. Included in his transfer agreement were bonuses linked to his playing time. One key clause stipulates that if Kounde participates in at least 60% of Barcelona’s matches each season, playing a minimum of 45 minutes per game, Sevilla receives an additional €2.5 million.

This season, Kounde has already played 34 matches meeting those conditions and needs just two more appearances to hit the threshold of 36 games required to trigger the bonus. This clause has been activated in previous seasons since his arrival.

Currently, Kounde is sidelined due to a muscle injury in the middle section of his left thigh’s biceps femoris, which will keep him out for several weeks, including the upcoming Copa del Rey match against Sevilla. Nonetheless, Barcelona is optimistic about his return before the season ends.

If Kounde manages to reach those two remaining appearances, Sevilla will gain an additional €2.5 million, increasing Barcelona’s overall transfer-related expenses and showcasing the financial impact of such contractual clauses.
