A FIFA delegation has completed the first round of inspections across the three World Cup 2030 host countries: Spain, Morocco, and Portugal. Their first stop was the fully revamped Spotify Camp Nou in Barcelona.
At a recent King’s Cup semifinal against Atlético Madrid, the stadium set a season attendance record of 45,399 spectators. The club is awaiting local government approval to increase capacity to 62,000 for the upcoming Sevilla match, with plans to reach a final capacity of 105,000 upon completion of renovations.
FIFA expressed strong satisfaction with the enhancements at the stadium. The organization views Spotify Camp Nou as a key venue for the tournament, potentially hosting semifinals and even the final. Other strong candidates for hosting the final include Madrid’s Santiago Bernabéu and Casablanca’s Stade Hassan II.
Final evaluations and decisions will follow the Summer World Cup in North America and subsequent site visits. The progress at Spotify Camp Nou positions it to play a prominent role in World Cup 2030, reinforcing football’s growth and status in the region.
