Fermín López, the Barcelona midfielder, has been named honorary son of the town of Carboneros in Jaén province and appointed ambassador of the New Settlements of Sierra Morena. The local authorities bestowed this recognition in acknowledgement of both his sporting career and the values he represents.

The distinction emphasizes not only López’s football talent, demonstrated notably during his 2022-2023 loan spell at nearby Linares, but also his example of perseverance, determination, and humility. Carboneros mayor Domingo Bonillo described the ceremony as emblematic for the community, promoting principles like solidarity and harmony.

Born in 2003 in El Campillo, Huelva, Fermín López developed in several Andalusian academies before joining La Masia in 2016. His breakthrough came during his season on loan at Linares Deportivo, where he played nearly 40 matches, scored 12 goals, and provided assists. Upon returning to Barcelona, he impressed in preseason, earned promotion to the first team under coach Hansi Flick, and has since won Euro 2024 and Olympic gold with Spain.

This honorary title reflects Barcelona’s appreciation for players who embody strong moral and professional standards, reinforcing the club’s link with local communities and inspiring the next generation to strive for success both on and off the field.
