Andrés Cuenca, a 19-year-old left-sided central defender from Andalusia, is officially a player of Italian Serie A club Como. He was presented on Friday after signing a contract until 2030.

Cuenca joined Barcelona’s youth academy from Sevilla as a child in 2019. He made his first-team debut for Barcelona on October 1, 2024, in a UEFA Champions League match against Young Boys under coach Hansi Flick.

In February 2026, he renewed his contract with Barcelona until 2027 and was immediately loaned to Sporting Gijón in Spain. Although Sporting wished to extend his loan, Cuenca had already agreed on a transfer to Como. According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, the transfer fee is around €700,000, with Barcelona retaining 20% of any future sale.

During his time in Barcelona’s youth squads, Cuenca competed in three UEFA Youth League campaigns and played an important role in the 2024-25 title by scoring in the final against Trabzonspor (4-1). In 2026, he also became European Under-19 champion with Spain.

His new coach at Como, former Barcelona player Cesc Fàbregas, described him as a young defender with strong technical skills, energy, and strength. Fàbregas said: “He is a modern defender with good ball control and confidence. We believe he can develop significantly within our project.”

Cuenca expressed positive impressions about the city and club: “I really like Como, it’s a beautiful city. Everyone at the club has made me feel very welcome. I look forward to playing my first match and will give my all to help the team achieve its goals.”

At Como, Cuenca will reunite with Alex Valle, a 22-year-old left-back who also arrived from Barcelona.
