Darwin Núñez, the Uruguay international striker linked to Barcelona, is close to agreeing a loan move to Turkish club Besiktas until the end of the 2026/27 season.
According to Spanish media, the 27-year-old forward, who spent last season at Saudi Arabia’s Al-Hilal, had a disappointing 2026 FIFA World Cup and is unhappy with his role at the club where Karim Benzema remains the first-choice striker. Núñez is contracted to Al-Hilal until 2028 but wants to move on seeking a new challenge.
Besiktas is offering Núñez guaranteed playing time, although with a lower salary compared to his current package in Saudi Arabia. The deal is structured as a loan for the remainder of the season, as Al-Hilal is reluctant to sell him for a low fee after investing approximately €55 million last summer.
Additionally, Major League Soccer side Atlanta United have made an offer for Núñez, but he prefers a return to Europe over a move to the United States.
Barcelona continues to prioritize signing a top striker this summer, focusing on Atlético Madrid's Julián Álvarez. Due to the complexities surrounding that deal, they are exploring alternatives, with Núñez being one option. However, no significant movement from Barcelona has been reported regarding his transfer despite him being offered.
A loan to Besiktas appears to be the most realistic outcome for Núñez in the near future.
