Barcelona is focusing on strengthening their defense, specifically seeking a left-sided centre-back to bolster Hansi Flick’s squad.

Reports from Spain indicate that Castello Lukeba, currently at RB Leipzig, is considered a candidate by the Catalans. Arsenal is also reportedly interested in the French defender ahead of the summer transfer window.

Lukeba can operate both as a centre-back and as a left-back, offering tactical flexibility. Known for his aggressive defensive style and good ball control, the 23-year-old has established himself at Leipzig and has significant potential for growth.

Sporting director Deco has been monitoring left-sided centre-backs for months. Lukeba fits the profile preferred by coach Flick and is viewed as a better fit than Alessandro Bastoni, who was previously discarded.

However, Leipzig values Lukeba highly and could demand a fee close to his release clause, estimated around €80 million. Given Barcelona's recent significant investments, including Anthony Gordon and the pursuit of a new striker, such a fee may be prohibitive.

Contacts between Barcelona and Lukeba’s representatives have been reported, placing the club at the forefront of the transfer race. Nonetheless, financial constraints and competition from Arsenal are important factors to consider as negotiations develop.
