There has been much speculation about Julian Alvarez’s future, with recent reports suggesting Barcelona could be a potential destination for him next summer.

It has been indicated Alvarez might be looking for a change, especially after the conclusion of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Barcelona sees him as an ideal long-term replacement for Robert Lewandowski.

However, according to Jordi Costa from Catalunya Radio, Barcelona is not in a position to afford Julian Alvarez next summer.

Although the player might be interested in moving to Camp Nou, the club lacks the financial means to carry out such a deal.

This is unsurprising as Barcelona has yet to return to the 1:1 salary rule and still operates with an inflated wage bill.

Unless the Catalans manage to secure several high-profile exits next summer, it is unlikely they will be able to sign a player like Alvarez.

The futures of Frenkie de Jong, Ronald Araujo, and even Marc Casado have come into focus recently, but it remains uncertain whether Barcelona can finalize their departures next summer.

Moreover, the club may need reinforcements in other parts of the pitch, with coach Hansi Flick particularly keen on signing a new defender to replace Inigo Martinez in the years ahead.
