Sergi Altimira is set to become a Sporting Lisbon player in the coming days. According to 'A Bola', Betis and the Portuguese club have agreed on a transfer fee of €18 million fixed plus €4 million in variables.

Barcelona, where Altimira was trained in the youth academy, will receive nearly €400,000 for training compensation for the years he spent at the club.

Altimira moved to Betis from Getafe, in a deal arranged by then Betis sporting director Ramon Planes. Planes signed him for Getafe on a free transfer and then moved him to Betis that same summer for €2 million. At that time, Xavi Hernández tried to sign Altimira for Barcelona, but the deal was already closed.

During his time at Betis, Altimira established himself as a solid defensive midfielder. He was not an undisputed starter in the last season but his projection remains positive. He also had an offer from Leipzig but chose to join the Portuguese side.

For Betis, this sale was crucial to generate profits for the current financial year, with several players available for transfer. Altimira’s departure allows the club to approach the rest of the transfer window more calmly.

Additionally, Betis is considering the departure of Abde, who missed the World Cup due to injury and has offers from several Premier League clubs. Barcelona holds 20% of any future sale of Abde and is waiting for developments.
