FC Barcelona has officially extended the contract of defender Alvaro Cortes until June 30, 2028, including an option to prolong it by another year.

Cortes, captain of Barça Athletic, joined La Masia from Real Zaragoza’s youth academy in 2021. After a loan spell at CF Damm, he cemented his place in the Barça Athletic squad, appearing 22 times this season.

Recently, Cortes has been training regularly with the first team under coach Hansi Flick and has been included in matchday squads, indicating growing trust and plans to transition him to senior football.

Securing Cortes on a long-term deal highlights Barcelona’s focus on nurturing homegrown talent and building squad depth for the future.
