Barcelona is exploring options to reinforce their left-back position ahead of the next season, according to reports from Germany.
The club has set its sights on 22-year-old Nathaniel Brown from Eintracht Frankfurt, who has emerged as one of the standout players in the current Bundesliga campaign. His excellent performances caught the attention of German national coach Julian Nagelsmann, who officially debuted him for Germany last October during the World Cup qualifying match against Luxembourg.
Brown is known for his offensive playstyle as a left-back, mainly operating on the wing under coach Alber Riera’s system. His strengths include relentless stamina, pace, good ball control, and a powerful shot.
This season, Brown has played 31 matches, tallying 6 assists and 3 goals, two of which came in recent games. Barcelona has already faced him firsthand in the current UEFA Champions League, where he played all 90 minutes against them and assisted the opening goal scored by Knauff in a match Barcelona eventually turned around thanks to Jules Koundé’s efforts.
However, removing the player from Germany will not be easy. Reports from BILD indicate several top European clubs are actively negotiating with his entourage. Manchester City and Liverpool appear frontrunners to sign the international player, while Real Madrid and Arsenal are closely monitoring the situation.
It is expected to be a long race with a transfer fee potentially reaching 65 million euros — an amount currently prohibitive for Barcelona.
