Ansu Fati, a La Masia graduate, has concluded his six-year association with Barcelona by signing permanently for Ligue 1 side Monaco for €11 million. This transfer follows his loan spell last season, during which he featured in 30 matches across the French league and Champions League, scoring 12 goals and becoming a key player for the club.

The 23-year-old forward joined Barcelona in 2012 at the age of 10, arriving from Sevilla. During his stint at Barça, he made 123 official appearances, netting 29 goals and providing 10 assists. He became one of the youngest debutants in La Liga history for Barcelona, making his first-team debut at 16 years and 293 days old.

Despite a promising start, injuries repeatedly hampered his progression, leading to loan stints in England and France. In the 2023/24 season, he spent the second half on loan at Brighton & Hove Albion before moving to Monaco, where he established himself as a regular.

The transfer fee paid by Monaco is €11 million, a buy option that was part of last year’s loan agreement. Barcelona has also retained a percentage of any future sale, enabling potential income from subsequent transfers.

Financially, this deal is significant for Barcelona, as the €11 million inflow and the retained resale percentage aid the club in complying with La Liga’s 1:1 financial rule, facilitating smoother market operations and player registrations.

Barcelona’s management publicly thanked Fati for his commitment, professionalism, and contribution throughout his time at the club. Now contracted to Monaco for four years, Fati aims to continue his development and regain his previous form.

Fati’s exit marks a notable transfer in the summer window and underscores Barcelona’s transitional phase as it rebuilds its squad under financial constraints and sporting objectives.
