Lamine Yamal has expressed confidence in his ability to play full matches, overcoming a recent injury that limited his World Cup 2026 minutes. After cautious management to avoid relapses, his fitness now nears 100%.
In an interview, Yamal revealed he is at 80-90% of his full fitness and eager to compete at maximum intensity, stating, “I’m ready for 90 minutes.” He explained that earlier in the tournament he avoided risky challenges and full sprints, especially against Uruguay once Spain had already qualified, to protect himself from injury.
Discussing his Spain and Barcelona teammates, the winger praised Pedri and Rodri for their calm and consistency in midfield: “They are very good. I didn’t see Rodri at the end of the season, but Pedri is doing very well.” He also emphasized that winning games is more important than perfecting style: “People say we can play better, but first we focus on winning, then improving.”
Yamal revealed his preferences regarding Barcelona’s attack reinforcements amid transfer talks. He singled out Julián Álvarez and Mikel Oyarzabal as strikers he admires and would welcome, adding, “As long as he scores goals… we’ll support whoever comes.”
On a personal level, he described the joy of scoring his first World Cup goal, highlighting the unique emotion of representing his country: “I have never felt so much happiness. The World Cup is different because you play for your country.” However, he remains composed and avoids emotional outbursts, saying he only cries when hurt or seeing loved ones upset.
When reflecting on the tournament’s surprises, Yamal noted that Germany’s elimination was especially unexpected compared to the Netherlands’ exit.
As the competition progresses, Yamal’s growing match fitness and mental resilience will be crucial for Spain’s ambitions and his Barcelona career.
