Barcelona showed interest in signing Victor Munoz during the summer transfer window, but Real Madrid blocked the possibility of the 22-year-old winger moving to Camp Nou.

Spanish media report that Liverpool hijacked the transfer by activating Munoz’s €40 million release clause from Osasuna. The player previously developed at La Masia, passed through Real Madrid, and has emerged as a promising Spanish attacker.

Real Madrid retained part of Munoz’s ownership when selling him to Osasuna and will financially benefit from his move to the Premier League. This stake gave them leverage to stop the transfer to Barcelona.

For Barcelona, missing out on Munoz is a setback as he fits several team needs: he is fast, direct, versatile across the frontline, and is already on Spain’s national team radar. Newcastle United were also interested, but Liverpool acted faster to secure the deal.

Munoz is regarded as an extremely talented young Spanish player and could thrive under new Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola. While Barcelona may regret this missed opportunity, the reality was that the move was not feasible this summer due to Real Madrid’s interference.
