Barcelona continues its transfer campaign aimed at strengthening the squad for the 2026/27 season. Following the acquisition of midfielder Anthony Gordon, the club secured the signing of another promising youngster — defender Jorge Salinas from Racing Santander.
The 19-year-old left-back, also capable of playing as a left-sided center-back, stood out in Spain’s Segunda División by helping Racing Santander gain promotion to La Liga after a 14-year absence. Over the season, he appeared in 33 matches and provided 7 assists, drawing interest from several clubs. Barcelona, however, took the lead thanks to a strong relationship with his agent Jorge Mendes and Salinas’s willingness to play at the Spotify Camp Nou.
Salinas will sign a contract until 2029, with the deal expected to close before June 30 to avoid the doubling of his release clause from €8 million to €16 million. Negotiations include a potential player loan from Barcelona's youth setup to Racing as partial compensation. The club plans for Salinas to join preseason training under coach Hansi Flick and be part of the first team next season, highlighting his prospective role.
This transfer complements the earlier signing of Anthony Gordon — a 25-year-old English winger brought in to boost the attack and add dynamism. During the recent World Cup, Gordon showcased remarkable speed, almost 38 km/h, ranking him among the tournament's fastest players. His physical readiness and pressing ability align well with Flick’s tactical demands.
Alongside the priority signing of João Cancelo, who remains a key target to strengthen full-back positions, and with defenders like Jules Koundé, Alex Baldé, and Eric García, Barcelona is building a deep and balanced defensive line. While the search for a central striker continues, the deals for Salinas and Gordon show the club’s focus on reinforcing critical areas based on current needs and future potential.
Together, these signings mark Barcelona’s clear intent to refresh and solidify the squad ahead of the upcoming season, laying a strong foundation for competition domestically and in Europe.
