Barcelona intends to sign Marcus Rashford, who arrived on loan this summer, but Manchester United will be inflexible about the fee agreed a few months ago.

According to The Sun, the English club is surprised by reports from Spain suggesting a possible downward negotiation. United considers 30 million a reasonable amount, especially given Rashford's impact at Barça this season: 10 goals and 10 assists despite not always being a starter. The club believes those numbers should be taken into account in a summer transfer.

The deal is complex not only because of the fee but also because of the player's wages at United. The English club would save around £315,000 per week in salary; Barcelona is not willing to assume such costs, so it will have to negotiate a significant pay cut with Rashford.

The player's willingness to reduce his salary will be key for the operation. United, according to The Sun, still favors a sale, although Michael Carrick's arrival could raise the possibility of Rashford returning.

Carrick's continuity is not even guaranteed, as United is still considering bringing in another coach. Rashford has not played for United since December 2024 and lost the number 10 shirt in favour of Matheus Cunha during the Ruben Amorim period.

United's priority remains signing a central midfielder, and everything is planned for that to be the main summer investment once Casemiro's exit is confirmed. The club is also working on adding a forward. That is why Rashford's transfer and the savings it would generate are key to pursuing those objectives.

Barcelona, for its part, has two main priorities: a centre-back and a No. 9. Rashford would be the third piece, but the club must see whether the numbers add up alongside the other deals. For now, it knows United does not intend to budge on the 30 million.
