Barcelona continues to reinforce its academy system by signing promising 18-year-old Ecuadorian Josué Caicedo on a season-long loan to Barça Atlètic for 2026/27. The agreement includes a €2.5 million buy option, which becomes mandatory if Caicedo makes four official first-team appearances. The deal was finalized following negotiations with his parent club Liga de Quito, who retained a 20% sell-on clause for future transfers.
Caicedo has already gained valuable experience competing in Ecuador's top division and the Copa Libertadores, showcasing his versatility as a left-sided player. Standing at 1.83 meters, his pace and athleticism allow him to perform both as a winger and a left-back, making him an intriguing prospect from Barcelona's perspective. This approach aligns with the club's recent strategy of recruiting talented young South American players and integrating them gradually into the senior pathway.
Under the guidance of Barça Atlètic coach Juliano Belletti, Caicedo will continue developing in Segunda RFEF, aiming to impress enough to earn opportunities with Hansi Flick's first team. Barcelona is also monitoring other talents from Liga de Quito, such as 17-year-old defensive midfielder Ederson Casillo, who underwent a trial with Barcelona’s Juvenil A earlier this year. However, Casillo's positional profile differs from Barcelona's traditional academy molds, making his transfer less likely at this stage.
