Barcelona defender Pau Cubarsi, who is likely to start for Spain at FIFA World Cup 2026, shared insights on how he manages pressure and his mindset both on and off the pitch.

"I don’t feel any external pressure. I put pressure on myself, and it’s only to become a better player," he told MARCA during his duties with the national team.

Cubarsi added that playing for the world’s best club brings responsibility but not intimidation: "I feel free to go wherever I want, despite the close scrutiny."

When asked about the values that shaped him, he credited his family and close circle: "My family, my representatives, my friends remind me where I come from and who I am. I value being myself, staying grounded, and above all being kind. My father has always been a role model for me."

Off the field, Cubarsi enjoys literature and cinema: "Lately I’ve been reading the Harry Potter series. Initially, I thought the movies couldn’t compare to the books, but after watching them, I absolutely loved it. I also keep coming back to Interstellar for its fantastic soundtrack."

Regarding his attitude during games, he said: "I consider myself the same person on and off the field: someone focused, stepping onto the pitch without pressure. I just give everything while maintaining calmness necessary to play from the back."

On playing in the World Cup, he expressed: "Being part of the World Cup is a dream come true. We are like a big family prioritizing teammates over individual rewards. Moving forward together helps in winning trophies and matches."

He emphasized the importance of understanding each other during the long tournament: "Spending almost a month with people you may not know well requires learning what they need and want. Looking out for your teammates and yourself makes a huge difference."
