Marc Cucurella, the 27-year-old former La Masia graduate and Barcelona’s summer target at left-back, has reached a verbal agreement to join Real Madrid.
Spanish media report that the player, currently at Chelsea, will return to Spain but play for Barcelona’s main rivals.
At the start of the summer, Barcelona had Cucurella on their radar as an alternative in case Alejandro Balde’s future at the club became uncertain. However, Real Madrid’s interest has prevailed between the player and Chelsea.
Cucurella recently stated, “Right now I don’t want to talk about that. The truth is that I am very happy where I am. I am happy, my family is very happy, but at the moment I don’t know anything.” Nevertheless, all parties reached a verbal agreement, and the formal announcement is expected after the season ends.
For Barcelona, this transfer is not seen as a major setback as the club continues to have full faith in Balde and will not consider his departure unless the player requests it. Additionally, former La Masia star Alejandro Grimaldo, currently at Bayer Leverkusen, has expressed his desire to return to Spain and could be a fallback option.
