Following last summer’s decision to make Joan Garcia Barcelona’s long-term starting goalkeeper, the club has been restructuring its goalkeeping roster this summer.

The futures of other keepers have been resolved: Iñaki Peña left Barcelona for Panathinaikos for €3 million, while Diego Kochen joined Danish club Lyngby on a season-long loan.

Now, attention turns to Marc-André ter Stegen, who is reportedly close to finalizing a season-long loan to Ajax Amsterdam. His contract with Barcelona runs until 2028, so he will return to the Catalan club next year for further decisions on his role.

At Ajax ter Stegen would reunite with coach Michel, under whom he played briefly at Girona before an injury. This loan move offers him playing time and a chance to regain form.

With these developments, Barcelona plans to keep Joan Garcia as the first-choice goalkeeper, while Polish veteran Wojciech Szczęsny will serve as backup. Ter Stegen’s loan is close to completion and expected soon.
