Following recent signings of Anthony Gordon and Hamza Abdelkarim, FC Barcelona is now focusing on player departures.
Among them, the club is close to finalizing the transfer of forward Ansu Fati. Having regained good physical condition and form, he is set to remain in Ligue 1 as AS Monaco has decided to exercise their purchase option. This operation is expected to conclude in the next few days, given that the option expires at the end of this month.
While the official announcement is still pending, reports indicate that Barcelona will retain significant control over Fati after his exit. The Catalan club will keep the right of first refusal, allowing them to oversee the player’s future and potentially bring him back by matching any other offers.
In addition, Barcelona will retain 30% of the income from any future sale of the player, ensuring benefit whether Fati returns or moves to another club.
Contrary to some previous claims, Barcelona will not hold a €28 million buyback option on Ansu Fati.
Apart from Fati, the club has already completed the sale of goalkeeper Iñaki Peña to Greek side Panathinaikos for €3 million. Other players, including goalkeepers Diego Kochen—whose loan to Danish club FC Copenhagen is close to completion—and Marc-André ter Stegen, as well as midfielder Marc Casado, are also being moved on as Barcelona seeks new clubs for them.
