Manchester United are reportedly preparing a bid of around €40 million for Barcelona left-back Alejandro Balde, according to Mundo Deportivo.
The interest comes as Balde is not at his best: the 22‑year‑old has had an inconsistent run of form amid a difficult period for Barcelona. His struggles were evident in the Copa del Rey semi‑final, where much of Atlético Madrid’s attacking threat came down his side, and in the recent defeat to Girona Hansi Flick opted to start Gerard Marín at left‑back, leaving Balde on the bench.
Despite the dip, Balde is still regarded as a key long‑term asset: his pace, strength and ability to cover the whole flank, together with his emergence from La Masia, have made him one of the most promising full‑backs to come through the academy in recent years.
United are thought to be willing to test Barcelona’s resolve with an offer in the region of €40m. However, Barcelona remain in a strong negotiating position: Balde’s contract runs until 2028 and includes a €1 billion release clause.
From a sporting perspective, the full‑back has made 32 appearances this season and contributed three assists.
For now he represents the kind of young, home‑grown talent the club wants to build around, but if a significant offer arrives and his inconsistency continues the board may be forced to consider their options.
