Levante forward Iván Romero suffered an abrasion in his left eye during Sunday’s match against Barcelona.
Romero was struck by a hand in the first half of the game and was examined the following Monday by an ophthalmology specialist to ensure a "fast and optimal recovery," according to Levante officials.
The club released a medical statement on their social media: "During the match, the player received a hand strike that caused an abrasion in his left eye. After the initial evaluations by the club’s medical services, it was deemed advisable to complete the study and follow-up at a specialized center. Therefore, Iván Romero has been placed under the care of professionals at the AIKEN Clinic, a leading comprehensive ophthalmology center and Levante UD sponsor, to monitor the eye abrasion’s progress and ensure a quick and optimal recovery."
"The player remains pending evaluation in the coming days."
The injury occurred during a clash between Lamine Yamal and Romero in the final minutes of the first half. The match referee, Alberola Rojas, did not consider the incident worthy of disciplinary action. Romero continued playing until the 70th minute, when he was substituted by Cameroonian forward Élia Éyong.
