Gerard Pique has voiced strong support for Barcelona’s young forward Lamine Yamal ahead of the 2026 World Cup final scheduled for Sunday. The former Barcelona defender believes that despite his youth, the 19-year-old has already shown he can thrive under the tremendous pressure of football’s biggest stage.

"Lamine Yamal is very young, but I think he’s had an early start to life and has had to deal with and adapt to many situations," Pique said. "This has made him mature faster and show that he’s ready to face occasions like Sunday’s final. It might be tough for a 19-year-old to handle such immense pressure, but I don’t think Lamine has any trouble with it; in fact, I think he enjoys it. He’s a truly special and unique talent, and let’s hope he’s crowned world champion on Sunday."

Pique also reflected on Lionel Messi, the captain of Argentina aiming for a second consecutive World Cup victory. He noted, "If Leo wins the title, it would be a fantastic story for him to win it twice in a row. Perhaps many people didn’t expect that considering Leo’s age."

When asked about stopping Messi, Pique admitted his extraordinary quality: "He’s extraordinary. It doesn’t matter if you mark him with one, two, or three players. He will find a way to unsettle the opposition’s defence and create an advantage for his team, whether with a decisive pass, a goal, or by leaving a teammate unmarked."

Support from such respected figures as Pique adds confidence to Lamine Yamal as he prepares to be one of Spain’s key attacking hopes in the decisive match.
