FC Barcelona is interested in potentially signing 20-year-old Belgian winger Malick Fofana from Olympique Lyon in the medium term.
Lyon is currently in a phase of financial recovery. Earlier reports linked Fofana to Liverpool, but due to the high price for Colombian forward Luis Díaz, Barcelona could not sign him. Díaz eventually moved to Bayern Munich.
Now, Fofana is considered a future option for Barcelona. Due to his current injury, a more affordable transfer deal may be possible, with a fee around 30 million euros, similar to the amount paid last summer for Marcus Rashford.
In the current season, Fofana has played only 9 Ligue 1 matches because of a right ankle injury. Last season, he scored 11 goals and provided 6 assists in 41 games. This season, he has 2 goals and 1 assist in 12 matches.
Fofana is a 20-year-old Belgian player, capped five times for Belgium’s national team, scoring one goal. He is 1.69m tall, right-footed, mainly playing as a left winger. His contract with Lyon runs until 2028. He joined Lyon in January 2025 from Ghana for 20 million euros, and former Manchester City midfielder Rayan Cherki called him one of the best young footballers in the world.
