Eric García has extended his run of consecutive appearances to 55 matches and has reinforced his claim to be considered for Spain's squad at the 2026 World Cup. Since missing the Champions League game Benfica–Barça on 5 March 2025, he has played every match and once again showed his qualities in Barcelona’s clash with Mallorca.
This season he has logged over 2,700 minutes out of a possible 3,240 and has not missed any of Barcelona’s 36 games, highlighting his consistency and leadership. He continued to feature even after suffering a broken nose against Brugge, proving to be a dependable utility player for Hansi Flick. García can operate in several roles: both full-back positions, centre-back and as a defensive midfielder.
He ranks among the defenders with the highest pass completion rates, around 89–91% this season in LaLiga and other club competitions. In the 2025–26 Champions League he has maintained a 90.5% accuracy, completing 468 of 506 attempted passes. His presence helps Barcelona concede fewer goals per game (0.83) when he is on the pitch, and his recovery and tackle numbers show he contributes actively in defensive actions as well as in possession. He brings physical consistency and experience to the side.
He has been absent from the senior national team for some time. After representing Spain at youth levels, he made his senior debut on 6 September 2020, coming on for Sergio Ramos in the second half of the Nations League 4–0 win over Ukraine. In 2021 he was selected for Euro 2020 and the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, and the following year he was part of Spain’s squad at the World Cup in Qatar, where he did not play a minute.
