Barcelona sporting director Deco has affirmed the club's intention to make an offer to defender Andreas Christensen, who is currently injured and will be out of contract this summer. Deco explained that the club wants to monitor Christensen's season and then propose an arrangement they consider fair and appropriate given his circumstances.

Reports have indicated that president Joan Laporta is prepared to grant Christensen a one-year extension, and Deco confirmed the club is ready to put forward such an offer. Deco highlighted the Dane's contribution: in his first season under Xavi he featured regularly and played an important role in winning the LaLiga title.

Deco pointed out that injuries have significantly affected Christensen in recent years, so the club decided to assess his situation through the remainder of the season before making a final call. The timing of the current injury has brought the decision closer, since the club believes he is unlikely to be able to play again before the end of the campaign.

For that reason Barcelona plans to present an offer they judge to be reasonable, leaving Christensen free to choose his next step. The player is under no obligation to stay at Barça, but the club intends, at least, to have an offer on the table so he can evaluate it and decide what is best for his future.

Christensen has publicly stated he wants to remain at Barcelona and has indicated he does not have an alternative plan, which suggests he is likely to accept any offer Barcelona makes this summer.
