Bernardo Silva, once considered a favourite to join Barcelona on a free transfer, now appears to be heading towards Atletico Madrid.
Spanish media report that Barcelona is not particularly concerned about Silva’s potential move to Atletico. The club respects his quality but has never viewed signing him as a priority — more as an opportunity initiated by the player himself.
Silva offered his services to Barcelona rather than the club pursuing him. The Catalan side made clear that their primary focus was on signing a striker to replace Robert Lewandowski, so there was no urgency or pressure to finalize a deal for a midfielder.
Barcelona’s midfield already has depth, with players like Marc Bernal emerging and Gavi recovering strongly, making an addition on that front less critical. Furthermore, Silva’s profile does not naturally fit the wide positions, limiting his tactical integration under coach Flick.
The club also stresses that it will not tolerate players leveraging Barcelona’s interest to obtain better offers elsewhere.
Barcelona’s current position indicates that Silva’s potential departure to Atletico is unlikely to pose a significant problem for the club.
