FC Barcelona will wear black armbands during their 27th La Liga match against Athletic Club at San Mamés to honor the passing of midfielder Gavi’s grandmother.

The 21-year-old player initially stayed back to be with his family and will join the squad late upon arrival in Bilbao. Although included in the team roster, Gavi is not yet fit to play. Head coach Hansi Flick confirmed that Gavi continues to recover from a right knee internal meniscus tear sustained in September 2025.

Flick stated that Gavi will likely return to action after the upcoming international break, expected around March 28. After the match at San Mamés, Barcelona will remain in Bilbao overnight and then travel directly to England for their UEFA Europa League round of 16 clash against Newcastle United.

This situation highlights the club's careful management of player health and the importance of emotional support. Gavi’s comeback is anticipated to strengthen Barcelona’s lineup for the remainder of the season.
