Iñaki Peña, the 27-year-old goalkeeper from FC Barcelona, is set to join Greek club Panathinaikos, with the transfer expected to be officially announced on Tuesday. According to Greek media, Peña will sign a four-season deal, and Barcelona will receive €3 million for the transfer.
Peña spent the last season on loan at Elche and decided it was the right moment to pursue a new professional challenge outside La Liga. Arriving in Athens on Sunday, Peña underwent medical tests on Monday, which is the final step before the official announcement.
He is expected to join Panathinaikos' preseason training in Apeldoorn, Netherlands, alongside sporting director Stefanos Kotsolis and newly signed Greek defender Triantafyllos Tsapras. The club will start the new season under Danish coach Jacob Nystrup.
Financially, the sale of Peña for €3 million contributes to maintaining the club’s budget balance and aligns with La Liga’s financial regulations, including the 1:1 rule and wage cap, allowing Barcelona to manage the squad and salary commitments without breaching limits. This deal also provides fiscal flexibility for the 2026/27 transfer window.
