Barcelona's head coach Hansi Flick aimed to strengthen the team's physical preparation by bringing in Holger Broich, his former colleague at Bayern Munich and a key figure during the club's most successful era.

Broich spent ten years at Bayern working with coaches like Ancelotti, Guardiola, Tuchel, Flick, and Kovac. He gained a reputation as one of Germany's top fitness experts, notably pioneering virtual training methods during the COVID-19 pandemic, which helped the team secure the 2019/2020 UEFA Champions League.

Despite his prestige, Broich's departure from Bayern in 2024 followed tense relations with Thomas Tuchel and an increase in muscular injuries. Although officially described as mutual consent, the separation was effectively a dismissal linked to the team's performance and injury problems. Broich publicly expressed disappointment over being solely blamed.

At Barcelona, Julio Tous remains trusted to focus on individualized conditioning, especially for La Masia prospects. Broich chose to continue in his role at Schwarz-Gruppe, involved with professional cycling, rejecting a return to football fitness coaching.

Despite Flick's intention to enhance Barcelona's physical conditioning with a proven expert, the club will restructure the fitness staff, relying on existing personnel and emphasizing individual player development.
