Barcelona has shown interest in 20-year-old Brazilian defender Vitor Reis, who belongs to Manchester City and spent the last season on loan at Girona. According to Spanish media, the club's sporting department is collecting information regarding City's plans for the player, as a second loan to Girona, which will be competing in the Segunda División next season, seems unlikely.

Vitor Reis is a right-sided center-back who came through the Palmeiras academy. He was a regular under coach Míchel at Girona and has established himself as one of the promising young players in his position. He stands out for his high pass accuracy among La Liga defenders, confident ball control, bravery, and quick reactions that enable him to adapt well to a high defensive line like the one promoted by coach Hansi Flick.

Barcelona is reportedly considering a loan deal with a purchase option, a formula previously used with Marcus Rashford. Negotiations with Manchester City are facilitated by the good relationship between City's sporting director Hugo Viana and Barcelona's advisor Deco. It remains unclear whether City's head coach Enzo Maresca plans to involve Vitor Reis in the squad for the upcoming campaign, the first after the Guardiola era.

Manchester City paid Palmeiras €37 million for Vitor Reis in January 2025, a record fee for a South American defender. His contract runs until June 2029. The player has also attracted the attention of Brazil's national team coach Carlo Ancelotti, who included him in a preliminary 55-man list for the 2026 World Cup.

Barcelona continues to seek defensive reinforcements along with prioritizing the signing of striker Julián Álvarez following Robert Lewandowski's departure. Other defensive options, such as Tottenham's Luka Vuskovic, are also monitored but seem less feasible due to high transfer costs and conditions.
