Financial constraints may complicate the deal, prompting Barcelona to track alternative candidates. Among them is 24-year-old Tottenham defender Micky van de Ven, who could leave amidst Tottenham’s threatened Premier League relegation.
Another option is 26-year-old Nico Schlotterbeck from Borussia Dortmund, under contract until 2027 but possibly nearing a renewal. The third alternative is 19-year-old Luka Vuskovic, a Tottenham youth currently on loan at Hamburg.
Valued between €55 million and €65 million, these players form a robust fallback list. While Bastoni remains the preferred choice, Barcelona’s preparedness underscores their commitment to reinforcing the squad effectively regardless of financial or negotiating challenges.
