FC Barcelona’s search for a new striker has become a top priority following Robert Lewandowski’s departure.

Inside the club, Julián Álvarez is seen as the perfect candidate to inherit the lead striker role and is believed to be able to thrive thanks to Barcelona’s attacking style and the quality of teammates around him.

Álvarez is currently focused on the World Cup but reportedly shows enthusiasm about joining Hansi Flick’s project. Negotiations with Atlético Madrid are reportedly difficult, as Atlético do not wish to strengthen a direct rival, and the Catalans’ offer of just over €100 million is considered insufficient by the Madrid club.

Barcelona views this transfer as a marathon rather than a sprint and is ready to be patient. Sporting director Deco is aware of the lengthy process and is preparing alternatives should the pursuit of Álvarez prove impossible.

The club’s shortlist of alternatives includes three forwards:

- Serhou Guirassy from Borussia Dortmund, who has been linked with Barcelona for some time and whose release clause could facilitate a transfer.
- Etta Eyong from Levante, closely monitored by Barcelona and reportedly interested in a move.
- Benjamin Sesko from Manchester United, the most high-profile name on the list, but given his recent arrival at Old Trafford last season, a move currently appears unlikely without a substantial offer from Barcelona.

Barcelona recognizes the necessity to strengthen their attack to compete in the Champions League, with Álvarez remaining the dream solution. However, backup plans are firmly in place should challenges arise.
